Who We Are
Introducing Orpheus Ocean. We believe that the deep sea no longer has to be a mystery, and we’re building ultra-scalable, autonomous robots to shine a light on the most unexplored places on Earth.
For thousands of years, humans have prospered from their relationship with the ocean. From food, to transportation, to energy, to the air we breathe, it is a core part of our history, our modern existence, and our future. Sustainable use, effective resource management, and thoughtful conservation are what allow us to continue this relationship - but the balance is precarious, and vigilance is a necessity.
With advancing technology and ever increasing resource requirements, humanity continues to expand its reach further into the sea, over the horizon and deep below the waves. As old industries expand and new industries emerge, they push beyond the traditional boundaries of what we can easily see, sense, and understand. This presents a challenge for sustainable use because, as the adage goes, you cannot manage what you cannot measure.
We take our name from the legend of Orpheus, the poet who journeyed beyond the boundaries of the known mortal world into the depths of Hades. Though he tragically failed to rescue his lover Eurydice, he brought back secrets from the underworld, rendered in story and song, for the enlightenment of mankind.
Our mission is to illuminate the ocean for the benefit of all. From the deepest trenches of the hadal zone to the seamounts rising from the abyssal plain, we are harnessing the power of autonomous technology and mass manufacturing to access and explore Earth’s final frontier at a previously unfathomable scale.
The knowledge we bring back will help humanity unlock the secrets of these mysterious places and inform decision-making around use and protection, so that we can continue to enjoy our relationship with the ocean for generations to come.
